How to create Statement of Methodology?

Before we start, one must know that setting Work Methodologies is very important especially in a medium and large scale projects where your Client has their own established parameters prior to execution of work.

They will require you to submit your Statement of Methodologies to complete the project before they allow you to mobilize. Thus, it will result to further delay of your project.

Here, we are going to set a simple guidelines on what your Statement of Methodology must contain before you execute your activity:

I. Title

• Indicate the specific title of the work activity

II. Table of Contents

• This one is optional. You may include this section in your MS (Statement of Methodology) to make it presentable. Some General contractors are requiring their subcontractors to put Table of Contents in their submitted MS.

III. Purpose

• Be specific in stating the purpose of your MS

IV. Scope of work

• Briefly describe the content of your Statement of Methodology.

V. Tools and Materials

• Specify all the Equipment, Major tools and materials you are going to use during the implementation of your Methodology.

VI. Procedure

• This section is your Statement of Methodology proper. You are going to identify the step by step procedure of your Work activity. Be specific and realistic to all the steps you are going to input in this section since some inspectors and Quality Assurance/Control Engineers are depending in your submitted Statement of Methodology.

VII. References

• Enumerate the basis of your Methodology Statement. It may be the submitted documents, Standards and Drawings.

VIII. Health and Safety

• Construction Industry is considered as a very high risk field. It is one if not the major contributor of death every year. Thus, every activity must have safety precautions to avoid accidents/incidents.
• In this section, you must identify all the hazards during activity and create your own methodologies to completely eliminate these hazards.
• You may provide a separate sheet where a more detailed and complete Job Hazard Analysis is created.

IX. Environmental Protection

• While the previous section discusses the Hazards to the workers, in this section, you will identify all the aspects that will cause negative impact to our environment and provide measures to create an environmental friendly activities.

X. Responsibilities

• Identify all the parties/personnel that will be responsible in the activity.

XI. Quality

• Enumerate all the necessary documents that needs an approval from your clients' Quality Assurance and Control.

XII. Appendices

• All the attached documents in your Statement of Methodology must be itemized in this section
